Mais tricô na moda masculina: marca londrina Sibling | British men’s brand with a knitting dna

Sibling é uma marca nova de Londres, lançada em 2008, por 3 camaradas mega inseridos no universo fashion.

Em suas carreiras, um trabalhou com o Alexander McQueen, outro com Lanvin, outro com Bella Freud, entre outros nomes peso-pesado. Os designers da Sibling são: Joe Bates, Sid Bryan e Cozette McCreery. A idéia da marca é também contar sempre com a colaboração de Dj’s, designers e músicos. Ou seja, é uma marca pós-moderna (sem ironias).

Bom, curti muito porque ela tem uma forte presença nas malhas e tricôs. A maioria é feito em máquina, mas alguns são handmade. Como estes das fotos (os dois primeiros são da primeira coleção, o casacão gelo é da última coleção – até agora foram apenas duas).

Sibling is a new brand, from London. it was launched in 2008 by 3 designers with a very good insertion in the fashion universe. Along their careers, they have each worked for different designers: Lanvin, Bella Freud, Alexander McQueen, among other powerful names. Sibling designers are Joe Bates, Sid Byran and Cozette McCreery. The brand’s idea is to partner with DJ’s, graphic designers and musicians in their collections. It is definitely a post-modern brand.

Of course I am posting about it here because of its connection with knitting. Their first – of two – collection featured the pieces below and above. Most are not handmade, but the ones that are are amazing. The last picture (a beige coat) shows a garment from their collection number two, from this year – 2009.

What is it about knitwear that you all have a passion for?

Everybody of our generation has some emotional connection to knitwear. Be it a favorite sweater as a child or watching your mum or granny knitting. To wrap up in your winter woolies, your school uniform sweater, cricket jumper it’s these feelings and memories that we are playing with.

Peças que enrolavam você no inverno, que você usava na escola… são com essas emoções e memórias que a gente brinca)

fashion designers recém descobertos

Última descoberta: este designer nova iorquino que está arrasando nas criações em tricô. Com formação em ‘textiles’ (tecidos), Tom Scott é a nova descoberta no ‘tricô fashion’. A avó dele era rendeira (ela era escocesa) e o pai tapeceiro. Boa formação familiar e fortes influências hein?!

Já Tim Ryan é irlandês.

O que os dois têm em comum é a valorização da forma, do shape. Tim Ryan fala em suas peças como esculturas (à la Sandra Backlund). Tom Scott parte da textura para desenhar suas formas.

Também descobri em comum uma proximidade geográfica: apesar de americano, Tom Scott estudou em Edinburgh, na Escócia (pertinho da Irlanda!!!) onde ele se graduou em “knitting”. Achei o máximo, aqui no Brasil não temos essa super especialização ainda. Imagina tu chegar e falar para gluém que se formou em indústria têxtil com especialização em tricô. Que lindo seria!

Cooperative Design

After meeting during their MA at Central St Martin’s in 2007, Londoners Annalisa Dunn and Dorothee Hagemann fused their individual aesthetics and love of all things “craft” to form Cooperative Designs, a knitwear line with an avant-garde approach.

Their debut collection as Team Cooperative Designs was a multicolored stripe-fest, featuring handmade oversized knits, jersey dresses, harem jumpsuits and snood-inspired headpieces in a range of bold hues that would have the less adventurous among us quaking in their monochrome. No worries though, a parallel collection entitled “Shadows” featured almost identical pieces in a more sober palette of black and white.

For autumn/winter ‘08-’09, the ladies were influenced by surrealist horror films like Jan Švankmajer’s Faust and Dario Argento’s Suspiria as well as tribal iconography. Rainbow stripes make a return alongside playful Aztec-inspired imagery, proportions lean towards the long and slouchy, and layering is encouraged with print leggings, long mittens, comfy scarves and pajama-like onesies.

The duo’s starting point may have been “a hand-knitted vintage cardigan featuring folk scenes,” but the end result looks like something Björk would wear on a video shoot in Tenochtitlan. And for the less outlandish among us, there is once again a Shadow collection. Now you can be cozy and cutting-edge all at the same time.
