Knitted Bar

Congratulations to whoever had this idea. A bar that involves people in threads, woven organic forms. I guess that is one of the reasons I like knitting and its shapes. It all becomes with almost nothing: a thread, some unpretentious weaving and it all starts, towards a never-ending form that can go to any direction and be whatever it wants. Freedom, movement, transparency, space.

The bar got the spirit and was created by designer Sam Buxton with the help of fashion designer Emily Hiller.

Cooperative Design

After meeting during their MA at Central St Martin’s in 2007, Londoners Annalisa Dunn and Dorothee Hagemann fused their individual aesthetics and love of all things “craft” to form Cooperative Designs, a knitwear line with an avant-garde approach.

Their debut collection as Team Cooperative Designs was a multicolored stripe-fest, featuring handmade oversized knits, jersey dresses, harem jumpsuits and snood-inspired headpieces in a range of bold hues that would have the less adventurous among us quaking in their monochrome. No worries though, a parallel collection entitled “Shadows” featured almost identical pieces in a more sober palette of black and white.

For autumn/winter ‘08-’09, the ladies were influenced by surrealist horror films like Jan Švankmajer’s Faust and Dario Argento’s Suspiria as well as tribal iconography. Rainbow stripes make a return alongside playful Aztec-inspired imagery, proportions lean towards the long and slouchy, and layering is encouraged with print leggings, long mittens, comfy scarves and pajama-like onesies.

The duo’s starting point may have been “a hand-knitted vintage cardigan featuring folk scenes,” but the end result looks like something Björk would wear on a video shoot in Tenochtitlan. And for the less outlandish among us, there is once again a Shadow collection. Now you can be cozy and cutting-edge all at the same time.

Knitta Please leva o tricô às ruas do mundo

Desde 2005 elas (tem apenas um homem no grupo) vem arrasando no tricôting. Foi a desmotivação os levou a fazerem o que fazem: aproveitar a ânsia do tricô frustrado: agulhas e linhas espalhados pela casa e pouca produção. Com tanto pedaço de lã, novelos espalhados pelos cantos e peças inacabadas bateu um desespero nas gurias e resolveram transformar o ócio em revolução. Foram pras ruas. Agora, tricotam as ruas de Montreal a Paris.

O último movimento foi em Paris, em 2007, longo caminho percorrido desde Montreal quando o grupo começou, em 2004. Passaram por El Salvador, NY, LA e deixaram rastros na muralha da China (!).

Knitting around the World

Minhas amigas acham engraçado quando conto meu projeto 2008: fazer uma série de fotos “tricotando mundo afora”. Já fiz viagens desperdiçadas esse ano, por esquecer de levar agulhas e linhas (Itacaré, NY com neve…). Mas é que ainda não me acostumei 100% com a idéia do projeto. Mas o mais legal é que o projeto começou no país que me inspirou: a Islândia.

E a primeira foto do projeto está aí! Foi tirada num lugar chamado Gullfoss, que além do nome que parece de uma cidade de Elfos, tem uma cachoeira que também parece saída de um filme à la Senhor dos Anéis, de tão perfeita. E no inverno ela congela completamente. Incrivelmente. Inacreditavelmente. Fotos aí para provar.

Apelidado como este blog, está sendo lançado agora em setembro (já comprei pela Amazon!) o livro KnitKnit. Uma compilação de artistas que trabalham com knitting. Tem obras maravilhosas, com esta da foto.

Haramaki - cinturinha japanese

Modinha em Tokyo: tem que ter cinturinha de vespa para usar… como as japinha secas das fotos. A peça parte de uma idéia super simples, mas que dá um super toque à roupa. Não é exatamente knitting, pois nesse caso as peças não são executadas a mão, mas poderiam ser, mega fácil de fazer! O nome da peça é Haramaki (que parece mais o nome de um sushi…). Abaixo, uma listinha funny dos motivos para usar um haramaki.

• Boost your bad blood circulation you certainly have from sitting in front of this screen all day Become fit by looking good!
• Since it really warms your whole body, you can wear less in general and don’t have to bury yourself with layers of layers of winter clothes. Perfect on board of any airplane (which is maybe why the Hobonichi ‘haramaki’ line is called ‘Hobonichi Airline’) or during summer days when the air-conditioning attacks your body! The strong cold draft certainly makes your body struggle which causes a lot of difficulty for the blood circulation. Many people develop cold kidneys but your ‘haramaki’ helps you to store the heat in the right place.
• But apart from all these great reasons for wearing ‘haramaki’ THEY SIMPLY LOOK DEAD COOL and act as the hot accessory to spice up your outfit this winter (if not throughout the year)!

Hallowig - em bom português, uma peruca de tricô

Que bonitinho! Acho essa peruca linda, um mix de chapéu com cabelo de tricô. Se a moda pegasse ia ser muito legal… a gente poder usar uma cor a cada dia, assim como penteados, comprimentos, materiais… e depois com desenhinhos, personagens, bordados…

Ainda acho que a moda dos chapéus uma hora vem pra ficar. E quando a gente menos esperar, vai começar a ver todo mundo no dia-a-dia de chapéu. Tenho um amigo que usa sempre, é lindo, fica um charme. Ainda mais se os chapéus forem assim como os dessa marca européia Rosy Naylor.
